Virginia Wine Country

When you think of the wine regions of the world worth visiting Virginia probably does not come to mind, but maybe it should. Wineries have been producing wine in Virginia for decades, but in the past five to ten years new wineries have been popping up, especially in Northern Virginia, just a short drive from Washington, D.C. Much to my surprise, some of them are producing some excellent wines.

California's Central Coast

The Central Coast of California is a very different place than the rest of the state. Spanning the area from Santa Maria to Atascadaro, the central coast is about equidistant from San Jose and Los Angeles. I grew up just north of Los Angeles and as a kid we often visted Pismo Beach to go to the Sand Dunes. Going back as an adult, there are plenty of other activities that make this region appealing.

Gone Wine Tasting With My Dog!

Visiting wineries can be a great way to spend a day.  You get to enjoy some wine, usually some cheese and crackers and go home with a few bottles for the wine rack.  Just west of Washington, DC is a winery that isn't stuffy, their wine is actually pretty good and best of all you can take your dog!  Barrel Oak Winery, BOW for short, is located in Delaplane, Virginia just off of I-66 about an hour west of DC.
