Review: Condado Plaza Hilton
Condado is one of the main tourist districts in San Juan, Puerto Rico and located northwest of the airport along the island's northern coast. Condado is about a ten minute drive from Old San Juan.
Condado is where you will find a variety of hotels ranging from 2-4 stars. The island's top resorts are located outside of San Juan. (This includes the AAA 5-Diamond St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort) I've stayed at a couple of hotels in Condado, including the Caribe Hilton. I recently stayed at the Condado Plaza Hilton, formerly the Conrad. It was not my first time in the hotel, but it was my first time staying as a guest.
The hotel is on the west end of Condado across the lagoon from the Caribe Hilton. It features an oceanfront high rise tower and a second tower across the street. The hotel's lobby is modern with vibrant use of color with a bit of caribbean flair. The lobby level features the front desk, a circular lobby bar and a second bar that appears to also be some sort of nightclub. (There was no nightclub action the entire time I was there) Up one level is the hotel's restaurants Pikayo, Eight Noodle Bar, and a cafe that serves casual fare and breakfast. There's also a casino on the second floor.
In terms of amenities the hotel features two pools, one featuring a swim up bar. There's also a fitness center. The hotel is next door to a public beach, but does not have it's own private beach like the Caribe Hilton. One of the best fetures of this hotel is that it is walking distance to many nearby restaurants and bars.
The room was modern and clean. Everything was mostly red and white. I had an oceanview room with a balcony and I had an excellent, unobstructed view. The bathroom was large with a glass enclosed shower surrounded by a closet on one side and vanity on the other.
Overall I enjoyed my stay. I rate this hotel at three stars mainly for the lack of what I would call true resort amenities.
