Hotel Review: Bardessono Yountville, CA
Located in Yountville, in the heart of the Napa Valley, is the Bardessono. With only 62 guestrooms, the hotel feels intimate and private. Each room features a private outdoor space, spacious bedroom, and bathroom large enough for in-room spa treatments. What makes the Bardessono somewhat unique is that it was built to be a "green" hotel. The hotel refers to itself as "deep green" with luxury. They definitely deliver on the luxury.
Upon arrival, two bellman/valet's greeted us and led us inside to the lobby. Our bags would arrive at our room a short time later. Valet parking is included with the hotel's amenity fee. The building itself is glass and cement. It's modern, yet warm and inviting. Everything was built with environmental impact in mind, but at the same time maintining five star luxury.
Checkin was a seamless process and we were offered a glass of white or red wine, both of which were from Napa. (We're in wine country, but it's always nice to be welcomed with a drink) The agenty who checked us in led us on a short tour of the property, through the lobby to the restaurant and bar, and then outdoors past the fitness area and to our room. At our room, she showed us the smart room features, including the iPad that you use for ordering roomservice, the electric blinds and the bathtub that drys itself. (Yeah, the spa baththub drys itself apparently)
We booked a Spa Suite, which is their standard room. Standard isn't a fair word to use. The room was a suite, featuring a small foyer with bedroom to the right and dressing room and bathroom to the left. The bedroom featured a couch and fireplace and a door leading to a private patio. The Bardessono only has two levels, and the rooms are designed so that no room looks into your patio. Clever design that ensures ultimate privacy. The bedroom featured warm, indirect LED lighting.
The bathroom was large. You entered into a dressing area with bench and a wall of closets. There were two opposing vanities, a large walk in shower with window to the patio, a massive jetted soaking tub, and private water closet. Since the Bardessono is focused on the environment, they utilize larger, reusable bottles of soap, shampoo and conditioner. Sorry, you won't be stealing the luxury toilietires at this hotel. I was happy to see they use a mechanism that makes it difficult for someone to tamper with the bottles.
The patio was one of my favorite features and we spent every morning outdoors enjoying coffee. Two of the three mornings we ordered room service for breakfast, which they kindly set up on the table outside. At end end of each evening, we finished the day with a drink out on the patio.
In summary, the room was spacious, relaxing and incredibly comfortable. In the bedroom, you will find a small refrigerator stocked with soft drinks, but no alcohol. If you have a favorite beverage, let the staff know and they'll make sure it's stocked. The refrigerator also had bottled water.
Housekeeping was excellent and the Bardessono features evening turndown service. Each evening we returned from dinner to find a bottle of water and glass of ice on the opposing nightstands. This is a small gesture I wish more luxury hotels adopted.
The rooms at the Bardessono are connected by outdoor pathways and gardens. There are no interior hallways. There is a small fitness center located in one of the buildings that features entire wall sliding doors that open up to the hotel's garden. This affords you the opportunity to complete your workout or yoga essentially in the garden. The fitness center was stocked with water and granola bars that they make on site, and they were good.
The Bardessono features a rooftop pool over the spa. While we didn't use the pool on this trip, it was a beautiful space featuring lounge chairs and cabanas. Under the pool is the hotel's spa. However, most of the spa treatments are also available in your room.
If you want to get out and explore, the Bardessono has its own bike shop and will let you borrow some bikes to ride around town. This appeared to be a popular feature.
The main building, where we checked in, also featured the bar and the hotel's restaurant Lucy. Lucy provides the room service, breakfast and is a decent option for dinner. That is, if you don't want to go to some of the other amazing restaurants in Yountville, including the French Laundry.
The Bardessono is luxury and simplicity perfected. The staff was attentive and freindly. The rooms and grounds are immaculate. If you're heading to wine country and want a luxury hotel check out the Bardessono. While there are many luxury hotels in Napa Valley, with the Bardessono's location right in the heart of Yountville, there are plenty of dining options and shops within walking distance, including a small grocery store.
