Hotel Review: Alma Barcelona

A quiet oasis in a busy city.  This is how I would describe the Alma Hotel in Barcelona.  First, I can't say enough nice things about the staff at this hotel.  They truly go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay.

The Alma is just a half block off of Passeig de Garcia, one of the busiest streets in Barcelona.  The outside of the hotel is marked with a small, simple sign.  You step from the street into a modern lobby, simply decorated, and welcoming.   We were immediately greeted, asked to leave our bags and step into the bar to enjoy a drink until someone from reception was available to check us in.

We waited about ten minutes before someone retrieved us.  There is no front desk in the traditional sense.  Reception is two desks with small couches for guests to sit and complete the checkin process.  We were offered wine or water while the process was completed.

At the Alma you have the option of being completely keyless.  They scan your fingerprint and this is your key to access your room.  If you prefer the traditional key they are happy to give you one.  We found the fingerprint worked well.

Dark hallways lead to beautiful, modern rooms.  We had a view to the hotel's courtyard/garden.  Our room featured high ceilings, a king sized bed, large LCD TV (which we never turned on), spacious bathroom with separate tub and huge walk in shower with rain shower head.  The toilet was located in a separate room closer to the entry foyer.  Recessed LED accent lighting was everywhere.  This was especially nice at night.

Toiletries included products from Malin and Goetz.  One other feature in our hotel room was the minibar.  Not that there was one, but this one was 100% free.  Yes, free.  It's stocked with water, sodas and beer and the hotel will restock it daily.  (No liquors)

The hotel features an outdoor garden and restaurant.  It was the perfect spot for a glass of wine before heading to dinner.  The Alma also features a nice fitness center, sauna, and indoor swimming pool.

If your travels take you to Barcelona we highly recommend the Alma.  It's near many of the city's tourist attractions, shopping, restaurants, etc.

The staff was exceptional, and truely understands the meaning of hospitality.
