Hotel Review: H Hotel LAX
During a recent trip through Los Angeles I booked a two night stay at the new H Hotel at LAX, which is part of the Curio Collection by Hilton. This is part of a higher end line of hotels in the Hilton brand. The hotel's building is actually two hotels. A Homewood Suites by Hilton takes up the first few floors and the H Hotel takes the top floors. Both hotels have checkin desks in the same lobby, right next to each other.
I haven't stayed at the Homewood part of this hotel, but from what I was told it's fairly similar to other hotels under that brand. The H Hotel is chic, upscale modern hotel. There were many small things that made a big different. First, the ceiling height. It's high. The rooms, even if you're not on the top floor, have 10'+ ceilings. This gives the sense of space.
Second, and this is more of a big thing, the bathroom was huge and bright. I love hotel rooms that put thought into the bathroom. The bathroom featured a double vanity, glass enclosed shower, a separate room for the toilet and upscale toiletries. This space was well lit.
I had a room on the tenth floor overlooking the airport. I enjoyed the view. If you are a light sleeper, you may want to get a room facing away from the airport because there is noise, especially between 10p and midnight when many of the international and redeye flights are departing.
The bed was comfrotable and they are using good quality linens. It helps that everything is fairly new. The hotel just opened around the first of the year. The rest of the furniture in the room was standard and there's a desk with plenty of power outlets to get some work done.
Another higher end feature of this hotel is the in-room coffee. The H Hotel provides Nespresso machines and coffee pods. This is definitely better than the coffee served in most Hilton properties. If you run short on toiletries or forgot to pack some toothpaste, not a problem, the hotel will send their robot butler up to your room. I saw these sitting in the lobby, like giant Roombas. These robots serve both the H Hotel and Homewood guests. It was definitely entertaining to see them riding the elevators and going down the hallways.
The H Hotel also features a dedicated rooftop fitness center, which was large and well equipped. The Homewood guests have a fitness facility on a lower level. Outside of the H Hotel's fitness center is a roof terrace that overlooks the airport.
I'm a Hilton Diamond member and I've stayed at various LAX airport hotels, including the Hilton. The H Hotel is my new go-to for LAX. The sleek, modern interior and helpful staff won me over. I much prefer this smaller hotel over the larger and somewhat outdated Hilton just a few doors down.
