Avianca Sala VIP Lounge San Juan, Puerto Rico
On my recent trip to Puerto Rico I had a chance to check out the Avianca Sala VIP lounge at San Juan's Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. SJU has undergone extensive renovations in the past few years and this lounge is a nice addition.
The lounge is airside in terminal C. If you're flying out of B or D you can walk to the lounge in C after clearing security. It was a little tricky finding the lounge at first. Follow the signs for the lounge and you'll eventually end up at an elevator that will take you up to the third floor lounge. I accessed the lounge with my Priority Pass, which I have through my American Express Platinum Business Card. You can also access the lounge for $27.
When I entered the lounge around 8am it was completely empty. The lounge is fairly spacious and there's adequate seating. I found the furniture to be somewhat uncomfortable. Don't expect a wide variety of food. They had cold cuts and cheeses laid out an some sort of odd sandwiches. There was a a few selections of cold cereals, white bread (for toast) and croissants. Another food station had a small bowl of chips and salsa and what looked like brownie bites. It was a somewhat odd mix of food for breakfast.
Drink wise there was a refrigerator with soft drinks, beer, water and juices. There was also a self service bar with liquor and a bottle of red and white wines. I thought the beverage selection was ok. My biggest disappointment was coffee. There was a machine with buttons to select different hot beverages. Unfortunately the coffee didn't work.
The lounge does feature WiFi and there are a variety of rooms, including work stations if you need a place to get on your computer. If you have free access the lounge may be worth a visit, but I wouldn't pay to access this lounge.
