Starwood and Delta Team Up
Delta and Starwood are teaming up to offer travelers some new perks. Starting March 1, 2013 Delta Medallion Members and Starwood Preferred Gold and Platinum members will be able to take advantage of Crossover Rewards between the two companies. Delta Medallions will earn SkyMiles for stays atStarwood properties and Starwood Preferred members will earn points for Delta purchases.
Under the program when Medallion members stay at Starwood hotels they will earn one bonus mile for every dollar spent on eligible room rates. Diamond and Platinum Medallion members will also receive 4pm late checkout, access to Starwood Preferred Guest elite check-in line, complimentary in-room Internet access and upgrades to enhanced rooms at check-in. I'm already at SPG Gold member, but I'm a Delta Platinum member. I think these new benefits are a great add since SPG Gold does not always cover Internet access and room upgrades.
When flying, SPG Platinum and Gold elite members will earn one Starpoint for every dollar spent on eligible Delta flights. SPG Platinum members will also receive priority check-in, Zone 1 boarding and first checked bag free. This benefit is similar to Delta SkyMiles Amex cardholders.
Overall I think this is a nice partnership. I've already decided in 2013 to visit more Starwood properties and fewer Hilton properties. I'll report back once the program gets up and running.
