Review: Air Space Lounge BWI Airport
As a Washington, DC based traveler I have the choice of three airports for my travel. While I prefer Reagan National I do sometimes end up flying out of BWI. When I fly out of Baltimore I try to leave myself enough time to stop in the AirSpace Lounge. It's located in BWI's D Concousre. This is the concourse that serves Delta, JetBlue, Cape Air, United, and US Airways. What's great about the lounge is that it's not airline specific.
The AirSpace lounge is modern, sleek and comfortable. The decor somewhat reminds me of the new SkyClub design.
What makes the AirSpace lounge unique is that anyone can enter for a fee. As the lounge describes on its website the fee varies depending on the time of day and number of people currently using the lounge. The lounge is free for American Express Platinum and Centurion card holders and up to two guests. I access the lounge with my Platinum card so I am not as familiar with the payment system.
When you enter the lounge you get a coupon to use for one free drink or food item. Since I normally end up flying through BWI in the morning I usually use the coupon for a breakfast item. If you're used to the standard airline clubs in the U.S. you will be pleasantly surprised with the food offerings at the AirSpace lounge. During my last visit breakfast items included a choice of a hot sandwich, granola with yogurt and fruit. The lounge also features complimentary juices, coffee, tea, soft drinks. There's a full bar with alcohol for sale.
The lounge itself is a nice place to wait for a flight. It comfortably seats around fifty guests and I have never seen it full. The room features a row of tables and chairs that wrap around the center bar and wall of flat panel monitors. The TVs feature a mix of flight information and television programming. You will also find private mens and womens restrooms on the far end of the lounge.
The lounge offers free WiFi and if you need to get some work done, there's a small conference room and business center. Need to power up your electronics? Not a problem. They've placed an outlet at every seat. This is much appreciated.
The next time you're in BWI's D Concouse stop by Airspace. The lounge is airsidide and open daily starting at 5am. I'd also like to add they have to-go cups for their coffee, which I almost always take advantage before heading to my departure gate.
